My Dad told us a great story last night about the first time he saw color tv. It was the very early 1960's on a Sunday. He had bought the color tv that day and had it set up in the living room. At that time, color television programs didn't begin until the evening so even though he had a color tv, the shows and commercials and everything were all still in black and white. That was until “The Wonderful World of Disney” began. As the family gathered around to watch, in black and white, the image of a globe of earth appeared and then buckets of paint from above began to pour colored paint onto the globe. The effect according to my Dad was amazing. To think to have not seen such a thing and then for the first time, watch it in your own living room. Disney ofcourse played up on the fact and added the dazzle effect by begining their program in black and white. The other TV stories he had were great as well. The teeny tiny televisions that first came out in the late 1940's, the magnifying lenses people used in front of the screens, the color strips you could put on your tv to make it seem like it was in color. How ridiculous. I also find it interesting that suddenly, in this day and age, the television screen is getting small again (as in the video iPods). “But a much better picture!” my Dad added.
