... three of the most dreaded words... for me atleast because I think that exercise has to be one of the most boring things one can do. But, I HAVE to do it. I knew the day would come. I have never been Mr. Physique. For about half a year one year I had a personal trainer who got me into shape and I looked pretty good. But then I STOPPED having a personal trainer and I let it go. Growing up I was the skinniest thing. At the time I hated it but now ofcourse I look upon those Camelot days with misty eyes. Oh, to be scrawny again.
Well, I don't nescessarily want to be scrawny, but it is time to start doing something. I am forty five years old and the other day whilst innocently folding laundry, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and eee-yikes... who is that out of shape forty five year old bald man doing in my bedroom? (A question I am sure many of you have asked yourselves...) As if the reflection came to life independantly, looked me in the eye and said, “It's YOU Rob, I am YOU and YOU are me and WE are HE and we are all together... koo koo ka joob!!!”
The need for getting into shape hath painted me into a corner.
There was no way out. It was either exercise or claim my out of shape middle aged man's body. I keep using the phrase“out of shape middle aged man” to freak myself out and incite me to DO something about it.
So today is the day.
I am going to take it slow.
What was that Oprah equation? Strength over time or exercise over time equals strength or... something like that. Basically, get your ass on the floor and give me twenty!
But doing exercise, starting small at first, over time if done consistently (key word there) it will WORK.
So, I am going to keep an exercise journal on my blog. If any of you, my dear readers see that I have lapsed and have not posted my exercise log, please berate me, chide me, point and laugh and REMIND me to do it. I am a big baby when it comes to exercise and I will give myself any and all excuses NOT to do it. “Oh, well, it's exactly 73 degrees out today and I think I read somewhere that you shouldn't exercise when it is exactly 73 degrees... I'll exercise tomorrow...”
OK.
Exercise Log, Friday, May 25, 2007
Stretched using my big blue exercise ball.
I did three sets of push-ups
I did three sets of crunches
I did one set of deep knee bends.
I know, that's all. But seriously, in the shape I am presently in, that was enough.
I feel good though. I feel like the muscles in my chest just woke up.
I am going to try and do atleast this every day and add on as I go.
Also, I am going to start running. But the first step is to get a good pair of running shoes. Jason knows of a place where they actually build running shoes to your exact foot size. We are going to check the place out. I will let you know what happens.
