Why do we even HAVE guns?

My friend and fellow blogger, Alexandra Billings writes in her blog:

“Sometimes I feel like people take the Constitution to mean what it meant when it was first written. People were bearing arms because there was war in the streets and there was no such thing as home alarms, police, or neighborhood watches. That didn’t exist. Do we really need to give guns out in order to protect your house? Get a dog.”

I agree. We don't need them. And speculating about whether the person was mentally ill, angry, anti-social... the more we try to speculate that those are reasons he shot 30 people, the more we are missing an easier option of prevention... get rid of the guns. The fact of the matter is, in this day and age, he was able to very easily walk into a gun store and buy a gun. “Two guns please..” Ka-ching! “Would you like me to put these in a bag?” It's SCARY!

I don't even know why we hunt animals. What is the JOY of killing? Yes, the argument could be that there is an overpopulation of deer, but there are other ways to solve that. Neutering? That seems to help the cat population.

We live in such a gun glam society. Guns are cool and beautiful and worshipped. They are flaunted and are a status symbol of power. We have every single kind of toy gun for kids to play with. Where is Billy? He's out playing army and knocking off his freinds... isn't it cute?

This kids mental health issues didn't kill those kids. His GUN killed them.
Guns are weak and cheating. You can stand far away from someone and kill them. You give them no chance to defend themselves. Yes, knives are weapons too, but for the most part, you can see THAT coming and you might be able to defend yourselves.

The plays that he wrote were disturbing, but have you seen video games lately? Have you seen movies lately? TV shows lately? CARTOONS lately?

No more guns. We should not have the right to bear arms because we don't need them.
We really don't. The only reason someone would argue that they need a gun is because the OTHER person might have a gun. Well, why don't we just not have them at all.

Police can have guns I guess... but maybe if we didn't have them at all, even THEY wouldn't need them.

I could blog this into a hole and I am sure it wouldn't do any good.
It's frustrating. We are just a time bomb waiting for the NEXT shooting to occur.
Talk about passive agression.

Even as I write this, there is some radio talk show host blabbing away on tv saying that what could prevent this from happening is to give TEACHERS guns. What? Just do not have guns. Make guns illegal. Yes, even if they were illegal, people would get them. Ugh... frustrating. Hate guns.

But it seems that there is no way not to have guns. They were invented in and around the year 1200 in China. And of course the first people to have them and use them against another people, makes THOSE people want them and it just spirals out of control. Sadly, it's hard to get an entire world to put their guns down.
