Bye, Bye Blackberry...

Our phones are so expensive to maintain month after month. We pay jointly over 200 smackers! Sometimes almost 300!
It's because we have those fancy schmancy pda phones. Jason has a treo and I have a soon to be out of commission blackberry. I have to say, I LOVE my blackberry. It has been such a faithful servant but lordie lord it is expensive to have that thing. Also, I am a bit obsessed with it which isn't good. I mean, for one thing, I am connected wherever I am. I can check my e-mail anywhere except when the train goes underground. Kind of too much. So I am going to unplug. Yikes. Scared. Can I do it? And we are getting cool new phones but they won't be as psycho crazy and immediate as the blackberry/treos... I mean, I will still be able to get my e-mail but... Oh, GOD this is ridiculous. Why do I have to be so connected? It's kind of driving me crazy. E-mail, e-mail, e-mail.... aaaarrrrrrggghhhh!!!!!

I walked by an old phone booth the other day. The phone wasn't even in there anymore. It looked ancient and sad and alone. Bygone days. And hello, how gross was it to talk into a phone that some stranger just talked into or sneezed into? Dial-a-flu!
It's weird to see things change so rapidly. It's weird to see people everywhere on their phones. Everyone is talking and talking and ignoring what's going on around them. Why even BE in a big glamorous city if you aren't going to even notice it when you walk down the street.

I remember when I lived here years ago, whenever I would get bored or jaded with Chicago, I would look up. I would walk down the same street but look up and see the tops of the buildings and notice architectual elements I hadn't noticed before. Now when I am on the train instead of watching my wonderful city pass by me, I am staring into a crackberry.

So it will be good to let go.
I wonder if T-Mobile makes a dixie cup with a string?
