More idol thoughts...

The finale always seems to be a disappointment. Last year too, the ones who really had the chops were overlooked. It should have been a showdown between Elliot and Chris Daughtry. But no. Pretty and somewhat boring girlie girl and grey haired blues singer who has a serious pedaphile vibe. They get the votes.

This year, after all is said and voted off, the final three were all very good. They were and are also very different. Blake who has a bit of a gay vibe (and after some Sherlock Holmesing on the net, I believe he might very well BE gay)... it's good to see someone like him getting the votes. Jordan is a beautiful girl with an amazing voice for a seventeen year old. Still a bit shrill and green at times, she definitely knows how to sing. She also has the American Idol great big key change vocal thing... the Sam Harris syndrome. People like that. They like to be reminded when they are supposed to applaud. Ooooo she got louder let's applaud!

I am a bit cynical because I was rooting for Melinda. Melinda is CONNECTED. The only criticism I can make of her is that she is insecure. She was starting to rock out towards the end of the season because I think she felt that that was what she needed to do to win. I think she should have stuck with the standards. That may have given her the crown. She strayed from who she was. Proved that she can handle all styles of music, but her heart is in “Home” from “The Wiz” and not nescessarily Tina Turner.

But she has already made it. She just needs to not be so shocked that people think she's good. You have to believe it in yourself or the audience won't and the audience is very instinctive (despite how much bad taste they might have). If they sense you don't believe you deserve to be there, they will stop believing.

This is a good lesson for all performers. And as much as I hate to admit it, as much as Simon says it's a singing competition, it's not. It's all about your style, looks, attitude and the voice comes second. So that just means, whether you have pipes or not, let that be the icing on the cake, put your heart and soul into your attitude and stage presence. Own the stage and it will be yours.
