It truly was an exciting night. I loved the choice of “british invasion” and enjoyed seeing Lulu grab at her new gold ring as it came around on the merry go round of her career. She seemed like a very good coach. Peter Noonan on the other hand, didn't have much to say to the kids and then would sort of bash them when it was just him alone speaking about them. Ick. I also got the sense that he and Simon are not the best of chums.
It was an interesting night in that the ones who were good were very good and the ones who were bad just stunk up the stage. What astonished me though was that the judges were being a bit too nice... even Simon. It seemed like perhaps they were giving the kids a break.
My vote for best of all last night was Jordan. She chose a difficult song and totally lived up to it. Haley who started out the evening was fun and surprising better than she has been but as the others came out to sing, she was left in the dust. This was apparent when they did the re-cap.
Here are my comments on each:(not in order of their appearance)
Gina: Needs to really go for it. Don't sing the song like she is plunking out the melody. If she is going to wail like a hybrid of Joan Jett and Pat Benetar, then she needs to treat the lower notes with grit and growl. It felt like she wasn't really hitting the lower notes. I thought she had raised the key.
Haley: Cute. But it's a singing contest not a show off my provocative peekaboo outfit contest.
Blake: Good but a bit screechy. And please, you are adorable, SMILE more.
Jordin: As I said, best in show.
Lakisha: I feel like she is good but isn't unique enough. Blah, blah, blah... we've seen it all before, year after year.
Chris Richardson: This guy is just adorable. His smile should be trademarked. He is a bit nasal. I didn't really think he did a very good job and then the judges were saying it was one of his best. Go figure.
Chris Sligh: Show after show, I am slowly not liking him. Can't put my finger on it. I think he is getting cocky for whatever reason.
Melinda: She is so ahead of everyone else that it isn't even a contest.
Stephanie: Yawn
Phil: Ick
Sanjaya: Oh dear god what is this kid doing STILL in the running? He is such a glorified BAD high school talent show performer. Stop thinking that you are cool and doing that odd thing of sticking out your tongue and making weird palsy fingers. It looks good on Blake perhaps but on you, you look like a dumb ass. DUMB ASS.
What was with that weird young Marcia Brady girl crying? The obvious answer was that she was overwhelmed to be in the audience. And I got the idea that they zoomed into her because it sort of had that teenage girl at the Beatles concert kind of thing. But then to dissolve in tears over Sanjaya's performance? I told Jason that she was crying because she had just received a text message that her mom died. I know, mean.
Seacrest... still so odd and fake and botoxed into a stupor.
Paula, worthless advice.
Randy was cool.
Love Simon.
That's my review.
