It is hard to believe that this is even an issue... meaning, they should have done away with the “woo woo” “indian chief” thing a long time ago. Native Americans are among the last of the people it seems it is still ok to be disrespected. Well, did we EVER respect them? I did... I do. It's just so silly and rude to have some dude hopping around in an “indian” outfit. And then they make a fuss about not being able to be so racist and to not consider how Native Americans feel in 2007 when something that is religious and sacred to them is presented in such a disrespectful manner. I saw a news report and some girl in the crowd was actually crying because it was the last time the “Chief” could hop around and “heep big this and heep big that.”
ENOUGH! It's 2007, and we can begin today to stop being so rude to people. In the past, we had all manner of disrespectful things going on what with blackface and all. But that is in the past, is a part of our history and shows how much we have grown. So to try to ignore that it ever happened (read: Oprah and Quincey eledgedly trying to burn every copy of “Song of The South”) that isn't good. The act of NOT doing it in 2007 is in balance with the way we used to behave in this country. And lord, we still have a ways to go...
