Up North...

I like to mix things up. I like to have my glam city life and then I like to get away from it all. My official getaway spot is the home of my sister Lynn and her husband Russ. Lynn and Russ is the equivalent of cozy, cocktails and country. They live in Kewaskum, WI. If you look at the map and squint you might find it. They are nestled alongside a state forest preserve. Cows from the neighboring farm frequently get into Lynn's yard. She runs at them with the dish towel. One time I saw a poor bull tumble down the hill because Lynn had screamed at it and waved her (lethal) kitchen towel at it.
What Lynn and I like to do is lay around and watch the most violent, disgusting, slasher horror movies out there. We each have a couch, each have a blankie and Texas Chainsaw ourselves into a blissful stupor. She knows exactly what kind of snack to set out, makes a tear inducing Pot roast and generally knows how to be laid back.
Now don't get me wrong, my sister can also be just as high strung and as crazy as me. But she lives in the land of Unplug while I live in the land of the live wire. City mouse and country mouse.

Back from Kewaskum I drove through a blinding snowstorm. By the time I had reached Chicago city limits, the storm had simmered down. But it was serious Snowglobe time up north. It's nice to have “up north” close enough to get to in a couple of hours. As much as I am a city person at heart, I actually enjoy (in increments) restaurants with scenic murals of deer, moose and eagles. I like a goofy Piggly Wiggly store where they stare at you because they've never seen you in these here parts. I like the way my shoulders instantly de-stress as soon as I pull into their driveway.
