Here is an interview Barbra did for her tour. It's interesting to note that Barbra states that she hasn't been back to Chicago performing since she was at Mr. Kelly's in 1960 something or other. The truth is (and I know she likes the truth) is that she was at Soldiers Field performing in 1967. She talks about shooting her “People” album cover watching the sun rise over Lake Michigan. It is also in Chicago where she got her famous page boy haircut. In fact, my favorite album, “The Second Barbra Streisand Album” features a photo taken by Wood Kozumi, who had(s) his studio here. I once had headshots taken by Wood. I remember being very excited to think that the same photographer was shooting me. I didn't have a page boy though. Don't think that it didn't cross my mind. I went through a period (am I out of it yet) where I wanted to BE Barbra. I approached my cabaret act as if I were a young Streisand. It was quite a different effect though. Barbra singing “I Had Myself A True Love” was a wee bit different then me trying to be her, seated atop a piano in “a little joint” (my version of The Lion) in boys town.
Hey, I had a great time. Wasn't very marketable but what the hell. Anyone who was there got to hear me belt it out to beat the band.
