Ok. So it's been a while since I blogged about “the kids” as I call them. It was sad to see Paris go the other day. She is so adorable. She comes from an amazing musical family. I know of the “Sounds of Blackness” from my time in Minneapolis. I think she would be the PERFECT Dorothy in “The Wiz” revival on Broadway. Get your butt to broadway Paris.
So who do I think will/should win. I think it will be whittled down to Chris and Kat. It's difficult. The four of them are all very individual and all very great. Taylor kind of bugs me but at the same time he is very entertaining. I didn't like the Beatles song. I did like “Funky Music” though. I like to watch him dance and move. But as far as being the winner, no.
Now we go to Elliot. Elliot is very interesting. He puffs up and comes to life when he starts singing. He is a born singer. It comes through him. He channels the same energy that many, many great artists channel and learn to channel over years and years of hard work. But he seems a bit uncomfortable with it. He doesn't make me completely relax and enjoy. But maybe that's a good thing. His voice is amazing. I want to hear it do more and more things. I want him to learn how to control his vibrato a bit more. But he is very Jolson/Garlandesque... it's that balance of tension and relaxation that makes him interesting. He is odd looking but in a sexy way. He exudes a very interesting sex appeal but he seems overwhelmed by it. Happy, but overwhelmed.
Chris has very dark eyes and they seem to glaze over a bit. He is a music making machine. He is connected because he HAS to be or his head will pop off when he sings. But he seems TOO connected and not vulnerable. I want to see sweat pour off his head. I want to see him make weird scrunchy faces when he sings. He is too robotic. But the voice this guy has is incredible. I want to hear him sing other song styles but with the same intensity that he uses with his metal songs. I loved the Styx song. That's one of my favorite songs. But he doesn't surprise me anymore. When Elliot hit the last part of his “On Broadway” song it surprised and delighted me. Elliot still has secrets up his sleeve. Chris is starting to get boring.
Kat, Kat, Kat... I LOVE this girl.
She is so cute, so pretty such an adorable spirit. I am not too happy to see her belt her head off though because I think she thinks it's what she is supposed to do. The first time she opened her mouth and sang, “All is Fair in Love and War” my ears picked up and have BEEN up ever since. And then she gets criticized for being too old fashioned. Don't STOP singing Streisand! Good Lord why does Babs have to be swept out to sea? What is wrong with the world? Doesn't anyone like Babs anymore? So Kat goes on to sing Whitney and they tell her that she is not as good as Whitney. Comparing dear, dear Kat to Witney? Um, let's see... Kat...or a crack whore... um, let's see if there is a comparison? Um, NO there isn't. Kat may nonchalantly sing ANY Whitney song, take ownership of it and then drop it from her repertoir whenever she wants. Don't compare her to that pathetic drug infused has been! Sheesh!
I loved it when she sang the “Black Horse Cherry Tree” song. First of all, I love the song and the artist who sings it. So when Kat began the song I flipped out like a teenage girl. I do that a lot. And she was just sitting on the stage floor and having a blast and was just so happy and centered and there and beautiful. I have a crush on her. I will buy all her albums. Please sing Streisand on your CD Kat. Please!!!!
So who do I want to win? I want Kat to win. But who will probably win? I think the odds are in favor of Chris but I think Elliot could win. It would be a big surprise and it would be really cool. I will buy his CD's too. He is the new George Benson. The soul that pours out of him. I am learning a lot from watching these “kids.” It's GREAT television. It's the new Sullivan show. I love to see the celebrity guests in the audience. It just makes me happy and I don't know what I will do when it is all over. Wait until next year I guess.
