piano mover...

I have an interesting predicament as a producer here... associate producer... there, I just absolved myself of half the responsibility. We are beginning are cabaret/theatre series at Gorilla Tango and have purchased our own acoustic piano. Now the next step is to get it into the theatre.
It can't remain in the theatre because of all the other shows that also go on in the space so after every show, we have to move it back into the garage where it will live. Now that doesn't sound too bad does it? I mean, we have industrial strength rubber wheels attached to it... however, the doorway that leads to the garage has basically a big concrete slab in the way. Eight inches up and eight inches down. Doesn't sound like much until a piano is involved. The piano is an upright and weighs about four hundred pounds. My friend Thomas at Piano Forte made sure that we got a sturdy piano due to the having to move it so much.
So after trying to figure everything out, what will end up happening is that we will have to lay a thick blanket over the cement (to protect the bottom of the piano) and then we have to lift it up, set it on the slab, push it (gently, gently... ) and then it will come down again on the other side.

It will most likely be myself and Jason doing this. In fact, it WILL be us doing it.
It makes me nervous. I have to be there in a couple of hours when they arrive with the piano.

Should prove interesting.
