WEIRD! And so poorly directed and technically managed. I thought that the sets were wonderful. But they were so noisy! Sound was terrible. We were listening in surround sound and there was absolutely no rhyme or reason to how the sound was coming from the telecast. Sometimes we would hear applause behind us... from out of nowhere. And how interesting to continually hear people muttering stuff when their microphones were supposed to be off. And how rude to just turn the sound OFF when it was time for the winner to leave the stage.
Everyone for the most part looked good. Although I am not so sure I like this new Flamenco Dancer look. Zac Efron needs to be a grownup now and comb his hair. The girl from Twilight needs to be excited to be ON the Oscars and cover your mouth when you cough. SO tacky. Happy to see Barbra give out the directors award. It looked like she was wearing a version of what she wore on her Broadway Album.
I thought the pairing of Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin was genius and could very well spark the beginning of a new comedy team. They need to be put into a movie together pronto.
Sandra Bullocks speech and her references to Meryl Streep as her lover were hysterical.
LOVED the tribute to John Hughes.
The tribute to the artists who have died was thoughtless. First of all about two or three people were honored and you couldn't even see who it was. And I don't like the guest vocalist singing during this. It's distracting.
So overall I give the production as a whole a C.
Sets get an A.
Steve and Alec get an A.
Oh and one last thing. Neil Patrick Harris... Emmy's yes. Oscars No.
